Power It Forward for Small Businesses

What is Power It Forward?

When times get tough, our customers often ask how they can help each other out and their generous community spirit constantly inspires us.

Back in January we launched the Power It Forward Powerpack as a way for customers to support other Powershoppers in bushfire impacted communities simply by purchasing power. True to form, our customers got behind it, and raised a massive $185,000 that included a $20,000 kick starter from us to get the ball rolling.

Once we discovered just how much our customers supported Power It Forward we realised that this program was the perfect way to connect Powershoppers during difficult times.

Why small businesses?

There’s no doubt that small businesses have felt the impact of COVID-19. From adjusting business models, altering operating hours and revising services, these customers have done a lot to adapt while supporting their staff and providing for their community.

This Powerpack gave the Powershop community an opportunity to rally around our small business customers and support them.

How does it work?

The 'Power It Forward' Powerpack allowed our customers to pay a bit extra when purchasing electricity, this extra amount was pooled and will be credited (excluding GST) to the electricity accounts of Powershop small business customers who we’ve identified as doing it tough during of COVID-19.

The Power It Forward Powerpack includes a small premium (incl GST).
We pool the premiums, excluding GST.
This will go towards the power bills of identified Powershop small business customers doing it tough.

We’ve kick started this fund by contributing $50,000 to the pool and we will also be matching all customer contributions dollar for dollar up to $100,000.

How are you selecting what businesses will be supported by Power It Forward?

The rapidly changing nature of the times we’re in means that our customers’ needs change frequently too. While we’ve identified some of these businesses who are doing it tough already, we want to make sure that we can review, assess and identify any additional businesses and offer this support at the end of the Power It Forward program.
