    Unpack boxes, and unload stress! Your energy will be connected on the day you have selected so that you can move in with ease. If you are with Powershop at your previous home, you will need to let us know which day you need the energy disconnected so we can process a final bill.

Our handy moving checklist

8 weeks out:

  • Create a budget for moving expenses

  • Schedule in-home estimates with a moving company

  • Request time off work for moving day

  • Start selling the things you don't need on Facebook marketplace

6 weeks out:

  • Collect boxes, tapes, and bubble wrap and pack a little bit each day

  • Create an inventory sheet of your valuables

  • Address minor home repairs before moving out

  • For long-distance movers, check airfare and car rental

  • Research your new community for points of interest

  • Start using your frozen food and perishable items

2 weeks out:

  • Create a moving file to organize move-related receipts and bills

  • Change address for Social Security benefits within 10 days of moving

  • Change the address for your car insurance and rego

  • Schedule daycare for kids and/or pets

  • Book a hard rubbish removal or recycling

  • Moving far? Dont forget the stuff in your locker at your gym or community center

1 week out:

  • Check if you can book a walk-through with the landlord/agent

  • Donate food from the back of your pantry (we both know you won't eat it)

  • Make sure you cancel and/or redirect scheduled deliveries

  • Pack an essentials box with everything you’ll need for your first 24 hours in your new home

  • Finish packing and clean as you go

The day before:

  • Confirm with movers of their arrival time

  • Get cash out to pay the movers

  • Pack any house plants

  • Pack an overnight bag for day 1 of the move in your new home

Same business day urgent electricity connections

We know how important it is to have your power connected and ready for your big move, which is why we offer same business day urgent connections on most electricity accounts.* (It helps if you have a smart meter).

*Same day connections are not available on weekends and public holidays.

Moving connections vary from state to state

Moving House VIC

If your property is in VIC and has a smart meter, we can usually get your electricity connection set up on the same business day, but you’re best to call and speak to us before 4pm. The more notice you give us the better. If you have a basic meter or a site that requires a physical connection, we may not be able to do a same business day connection. We’ll need about 3 business days’ notice for gas connections.

Moving House NSW and SA

If you’re moving house in NSW or SA, you’ll need to call and speak to us before 2pm local time so we can attempt your electricity set-up for the same business day. If you contact us after this time but still need same day connection, you may have to pay an after-hours fee. Did you know we now offer gas connections in some NSW regions? Contact us for more information.

Moving House QLD

Once you have found the best energy plan in QLD for your new home, please call and speak to us before 12pm for same business day connection (between 1pm and 6pm that day).

Power faults or connection issues while moving home

We’ll do our best to get you set up as fast as possible, however if your distributor’s technician finds a fault or there’s an issue with your power supply, we may require extra time for an additional technician visit your property to fix the issue!
