About the Solar Sharer Offers

Solar Sharer Offers are standalone plans that require you to switch plans to join. You must opt in. You will not be automatically moved onto these plans. To be eligible for these plans you must be a residential customer with a smart meter. At Powershop we want to make sure you make an informed decision before changing from your current plan or retailer. Here are some key details to help you decide if a Solar Sharer Offer is the right plan for you. Solar Sharer Offers apply time-of-use pricing, meaning the rates you pay depend on when you use electricity. Solar Sharer Offers have 3 free hours of electricity usage between 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Queensland and New South Wales, and between 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm in South Australia. Please note that while electricity usage during the free period is not charged (up to the applicable fair usage limit), other charges such as the daily supply charge and any controlled load charges will still apply. If you don't shift your usage into the free usage period, you may pay more overall compared to other plans. Solar Sharer Offers are best suited to customers who can shift some of their electricity usage into the free daytime period.

The plans may not be suited for:

  • Customers who use most of their electricity in the evening or overnight

  • Customers who are unable to change when they use electricity

As a guide, if you can move 30% or more of your energy consumption into the free window, you may see a benefit from these plans. If you are unable to shift your usage you may experience higher overall electricity costs. We recommend checking your usage patterns in the Powershop app or online portal. The remaining 21 hours are charged at different rates depending on the time of day. Finally, there is a fair usage cap of 24kWh implemented for the free period. If you use more than 24kWh within the 3-hour free window in a day you may be charged for the excess usage at your off-peak rate.

We have two plans:

  1. A Standing Offer - referred to as “Powershop Solar Sharer Standing Offer” on our website.

  2. A Market Offer - referred to as “Solar Sharer” on our website. This is structured the same as the Standing Offer, giving the same 3 hours of free energy at the same time, with the same usage rates per kWh, however the daily supply charge rate is cheaper.

To view pricing for the Solar Sharer Offers, please visit https://www.powershop.com.au/energy-rates-and-prices, enter your postcode, and select the relevant plan from the “All Energy Plans” drop-down menu. You will then be directed to the Energy Made Easy website, where you can review pricing information.
