About Your Neighbourhood Solar

Solar topic:

Your Neighbourhood Solar is a Powerpack, available to most of our customers once or twice per year. More than that, it’s your chance to support those in your neighbourhood who have solar installed and are exporting that energy to the grid. When you buy this Powerpack, a 4.4c/kWh (incl. GST) premium gets redistributed to Powershop solar customers with a smart meter and on a standard Feed-in Tariff in your distribution area.

How Your Neighbourhood Solar works.
Who benefits from Your Neighbourhood Solar?

The premium included in Your Neighbourhood Solar effectively increases the Feed-in Tariff your ‘neighbours’ receive for the solar energy they export to the grid. None of this premium is retained by Powershop, it is all pooled together and redistributed to Powershop solar customers with a smart meter on the standard Feed-in Tariff in your distribution area. So you’ll not only be helping to reward people for their investment in solar, but you’ll also show the market that there’s a demand for it – whether you’ve installed solar or not.

Why did Powershop start Your Neighbourhood Solar?

At Powershop, we’re all about trying new things and ultimately giving our customers control. We believe the way energy is generated, how it travels to our homes and how we pay for it, is going to change dramatically in our lifetime. Empowering our customers is an important part of this change.

Your Neighbourhood Solar is your chance to pay it forward to your solar-loving neighbours, and have an impact on our shared energy future. We hope that together we can:

  • send a message to the market that rooftop solar is valuable, encouraging other neighbours to contribute to the small-scale renewable mix in Australia by installing solar panels;
  • reward our solar customers for the energy they export to the grid;
  • give all our customers choice and variety in the initiatives they want to support; and
  • make a first step towards what might be energy trading of the future.
