What is the difference between Net and Gross solar metering?

Solar topic:

Net Metering means you are paid for any excess generation that has not been consumed by your household and that is exported to the grid. Gross Metering means all of the solar energy you generate is exported straight to the grid so you are paid for the total amount you generate and export.

By exporting only your surplus generation to the grid and utilising solar for your household, Net Metering allows you to use the majority of the electricity you generate to power your home.

Because there aren’t many people still on high government-subsidised Feed-in Tariffs, for most people, being able to use what they generate means saving more on energy bills.
