Better Power Projects

Switch to a greener energy company and help a much-loved community hub install solar!

Powershop has partnered with GetUp's Better Power Projects to help the Addison Road Community Centre do more of its vital work by saving money by reducing its electricity bills. Installing solar on the community centre’s buildings would significantly reduce its costs enabling more investment in programs that help the most disadvantaged people in our community.

For every person who switches their energy to Powershop between now and 31 January 2019, Powershop will provide a financial contribution towards the solar project, up to a maximum of $50,000.

Powershop will also provide a financial contribution to GetUp for every person who switches their energy to Powershop, which goes towards funding their campaign work against climate change and coal seam gas.

The Addison Road Community Centre is the beating heart of Marrickville, in Sydney’s inner west. It’s home to more than 20 groups including Reverse Garbage, the Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women’s Legal Centre, Youth Off The Streets, the Pantry Food Bank, Maggie’s Rescue, theatres, an art gallery and the refugee and migrant street food night markets.

But the site is old - and big. This year, the electrical infrastructure on the nine-acre former army base needed urgent upgrading, costing the centre about $100,000. On top of that, Addison Road Community Centre Organisation (ARCCO) spends a massive $6,000 - $8,000 every month on its electricity bills.

By switching your energy to Powershop you can help ARCCO save money and reduce its carbon footprint, so it can do more of its important work in refugee support, sustainability, social justice, arts and human rights.

The Better Power campaign began two years ago when GetUp partnered with energy retailer Powershop to provide an affordable, greener alternative to the major energy companies that dominate the market.

So far GetUp has helped more than 20,000 make the switch to Powershop, wiping millions of dollars off the bottom lines of the big polluters like AGL, Origin and EnergyAustralia.

Now Powershop are giving us the opportunity to help a community organisation go solar – reducing their energy costs, their carbon footprint, and their reliance on big polluters.

For everyone who switches their energy to Powershop before the 31st January, Powershop will provide a financial contribution towards the solar project, up to a maximum of $50,000.

Backed by a 100% renewable energy company and ranked Australia's greenest electricity retailer by Greenpeace (Green Electricity Guide 2014, 2015 & 2018), Powershop is also Australia's only carbon neutral electricity retailer. Powershop offsets all the electricity emissions associated with the electricity its customers use at no cost to them. What's more Powershop provide super competitive rates and top-notch customer service.
