Shop for power

Leftover power that you’ve purchased will stay in your account and go towards future months.

Track my usage

We have a few nifty tools to help you keep an eye on how much power you’re using and understand when you typically use the most, so you’ll have the power to use less and save more.

Daily usage
If you have a smart meter, your daily usage graph makes it easy to see any changes in your usage at a glance. If your usage spikes or falls dramatically you can then dig a little deeper to try to find out why.

In your desktop account
You’ll find your daily usage on your ‘Balance’ page.

If you have more than one property you’ll see your properties’ daily usage graphs one below the other.

Using Powershop’s mobile app
You can access your daily usage by tapping the icon that is furthest to the right at the top of your screen, or from the ‘Daily usage’ heading in the menu.

Current usage

In your desktop account
Above your ‘Daily usage’ graph we’ll tell you your current usage in kWh (kilowatt hours). If you have a smart meter, the current usage displayed will be based on your average usage over the preceding three days. If your meter isn’t smart, your current usage will be an estimate based on your last reading. So the more meter readings you enter, the more accurate your current usage information will be.

Using Powershop’s mobile app
In the mobile app your ‘Daily usage’ graph has an added feature. It displays the average dollar cost per day, and the kWh of power you’ve used each day.

Insights graph
The mobile app also has an ‘Insights’ graph. The graph’s bars represent the monthly dollar cost of your power. Access the ‘Insights’ graph from the ‘Insight’ heading in the menu, or by tapping the middle icon in the top right of your screen.

Usage patterns
If you have a smart meter and feel like doing a bit of detective work, you can discover what times of day you use the most (and least) power, down to half hourly intervals. This means you can have a think about what you normally do at peak times of day and, if possible, make changes to be more energy efficient. You can access this tool from your desktop account. If you don’t have a smart meter you will not have this tool in your account.

Activity Tracker
The ‘Activity Tracker’ lets you add notes to your ‘Daily usage’ graph so you can explain any spikes (or drops) in your power usage. You can use the ‘Activity Tracker’ to explain past events or set it to keep track of a future time period.

You’ll find the ‘Activity Tracker’ in the mobile app. Go to your ‘Daily usage’ graph and tap the stopwatch icon in the top left of your screen.

To keep life simple, we’ll combine some of the data for all your properties and keep some of it apart.

In your desktop account

Power organiser and days ahead
For example, at the top of your ‘Balance’ page, you’ll see how many days ahead or behind you are with your power purchases for all of your properties compared with your usage.

Your ‘Power Organiser’ will also show you where you’re at on all of your properties. So you can see whether or not you’ve bought enough power to cover all your usage.

Daily and current usage
Your daily and current usage in kWh for each property will be shown separately, one below the other.

The more detailed daily usage graphs under the ‘Usage’ tab will also be displayed separately. Use ‘Select Property’ on the left-hand menu on each page to drill down to see separate, detailed usage data for each of your properties.

In the mobile app

Days and dollars ahead
Inside the circle on the ‘Balance’ screen we display how many dollars ahead or behind you are with your power purchases for all the properties listed on your account.

You can tap to switch to an estimate of how many days ahead or behind you are.

You can swipe back to see individual properties’ circles side-by-side for previous months. For current and future months, however, the circle will show a combined account view.

Insights
In the ‘Insights’ graph each property is also combined in one bar. Again, you can swipe back to compare each property’s graph for previous months. The bars in the ‘Insights’ graph show the monthly dollar cost of your power.

Access the ‘Insights’ graph from the ‘Insight’ graph heading in the menu, or by tapping the middle icon in the top right of your screen.

Daily usage
So that you don’t drown in data, we keep the detailed ‘Daily usage’ graphs apart. Access your daily usage by tapping the icon that is furthest to the right at the top of your screen, or from the ‘Daily usage’ heading in the menu.

If you have a smart meter your current usage is based on your average usage from the last three days.

If your meter isn’t smart, your current usage will be an estimate based on your last reading. So the more meter readings you enter, the more accurate your current usage information will be.

Powerpacks

A Powerpack is a dollar amount of power. We sell Powerpacks at a range of different discounts in our online Shop, which you can access by logging in to your account from your desktop or mobile app.

Log in to your account from your desktop or mobile app.

Underneath each Top Up Pack you’ll see:

  • the percentage discount the Pack gives you off your Auto Pay rates; and
  • about how many dollars per day of power that Powerpack is worth.

Underneath each Special or Future Pack you’ll see:

  • the cost of the pack (which is how much you’ll pay);
  • the percentage discount the Powerpack gives you off your Auto Pay rates;
  • approximately how many dollars per day of power that Powerpack is worth; and
  • approximately how many days of power that Powerpack is worth.

Powerpacks let you use your power to take control of your bill. The idea is simple. Buy a Powerpack to cover your past, current or future energy usage – it’s a great tool to support you and your household/business budgeting.

Dollars per day

That’s about $2.28 per day

Dollars per day is an estimate of how many days of usage that Powerpack is expected to cover. It’s based on an estimate of your usage for the period that the Powerpack will be used.

Remember that this isn’t what you’re being charged per day. It’s just to help you estimate how many days the Powerpack will cover.

If the dollars per day for a Future Pack seems high, it might be because we’re estimating your usage to be higher for that month (for example, if it’s summer/winter and you’ll be cranking the cooling/heating).

Premium

+C/kWh 100% GreenPower

A premium is an amount that’s charged in addition to your kWh rate (after any discounts have been deducted). Not every Powerpack includes a premium.

For example, GreenPower packs include a premium for every kWh (incl. GST) that the Powerpack is expected to cover. For more info on why you would purchase this Powerpack, please see our GreenPower page.

When you want to buy power, log in to your account or jump into the app and head to the Shop.

Choose a Powerpack to purchase — you can compare their value by comparing their dollar per day amount — then simply add the Powerpack to your cart. You’ll be asked to enter how much of that pack you want to buy (unless it’s a Spot Special or a Future Pack, then you’ll just head through to checkout).

When you confirm that you want to buy your Powerpack in the Shop, the default option will be to complete the transaction using your preferred payment method. You can nominate either a direct debit or credit card as your preferred payment method.

You can set up and edit your preferred payment method by going to ‘Account Preferences’ in your ‘Settings’ in your desktop account.

No you don’t. Provided all your properties are on the one account, Powerpacks are made available and applied to your entire Powershop bill at the end of the billing period.

If you prefer to keep your properties separate (for example, if you prefer to buy separate Powerpacks or make separate payments for different properties), let us know — call us on 1800 462 668.

Don’t worry, we won’t cut you off! If you use more power than you’ve bought, we’ll let you know. You can buy more power yourself or let us do it for you.
