While the immediate focus needs to be on safety, we encourage Powershop customers who have been affected by the bushfires to contact us when they can to discuss the options we can provide to help through these times. We’re just a phone call or email away.
Customers who have lost their homes
Any customer whose home has been destroyed by the fires has a range of support options available to them and we’ll help as much as we can. Some of these support options include:
- Place all your Powershop bills on hold until further notice;
- A range of account payment help options;
- Access to our bushfire relief offer;
- Cover our fees associated with connecting energy with Powershop at new or temporary accommodation.
Customers who are impacted by the bushfires
We know that customers may not have lost their homes but are still impacted by the bushfires.
Customers who are experiencing any difficulty paying for power due to being impacted by the bushfires can give us a call and we can discuss our range of payment help options to make sure they are supported through this time. We’re here to support as much as we can.
Customers who are volunteer firefighters and SES volunteers
Words cannot thank you enough for your selfless dedication. If you are a registered volunteer firefighter or SES volunteer please share your volunteer ID number with us and as a token of our immense gratitude we will apply a one off saving of $100 to your Powershop electricity account.

If you are not in a position to speak with Powershop directly you can call and have a representative (e.g. financial counsellor or a friend) speak on your behalf, provided you give them authorisation to do so. We can also help direct you to other services that may support you.
What else is Powershop doing to support?
As a starting point, Powershop has donated $25,000 to the Red Cross and $25,000 to the WWF bushfire appeals to support communities and wildlife.
Our support for the bushfire disaster relief will not stop here. We will be working hard over the coming months to find ongoing programs to support the community in the long term because we know the impact of the fires will be felt long after they are gone. We will keep you updated as this develops and if you have any suggestions on how we can help please get in touch.
We also know that Powershoppers are really good at supporting their communities. Inspired by this, we’ve created the 'Power It Forward' Powerpack so customers can help contribute towards the bills of Powershop customers who have been impacted by the fires. We’ve kick started this fund by contributing $20,000 to the pool and with our customers help, we hope to be able to reach over $150,000 before 31 March 2020. You can read more about this Powerpack here.
